Wadi Rum is located in Southern Jordan and only one and a half hours from one of the Seven Wonders of the World, Petra. Jordan’s capital, Amman, is easily reached by aircraft. There are daily flights from major international airports and it only takes 4 to 5 hours to fly from most European capitals to Amman. From Jordan’s Queen Alia International Airport in Amman, it is a short 3 to 4 hour drive to Wadi Rum.
1. FROM AMMAN TO WADI RUM
By Taxi
You can hire a taxi or rent a car in Amman and drive directly to Wadi Rum. The drive should take about 3.5 hours. A taxi from Amman typically costs about 90 JD.
By Bus
It is possible to reach Wadi Rum by bus from Amman. You can take the JETT bus service from central Amman to Aqaba which takes about 4 hours. From Aqaba, you can hire a taxi to Wadi Rum which takes about 1 hour. A taxi from Aqaba typically costs approximately 20 JD.
2. FROM WADI MUSA (PETRA) TO WADI RUM
By Taxi
The easiest way to reach Wadi Rum from Petra is by taxi. Taxis wait outside of the Petra Visitor Center. A taxi usually takes 1.5 hours and costs 35 JD.
By Bus
There is an early morning bus that leaves Petra at 6:30 AM every day except for Friday. It is possible to be picked up by the bus at your hotel if you ask us or at your reception desk in Wadi Musa. The bus takes about 1.5 hours and costs 7 JD. The bus stops at the Visitor Center where you must pay the entrance fees to Wadi Rum (5 JD pp) or show your Jordan Pass. The bus will then continue to the Wadi Rum Rest House where we meet our guests. The same bus leaves Wadi Rum going to Petra at 9:00 reaching Petra at 10:30.
3. FROM AQABA TO WADI RUM
By Taxi
It is possible to rent a car in Aqaba. There are also many taxis available that will take tourists from Aqaba to Wadi Rum. Taxis typically cost 20 JD and take 1 hour. Ask us in advance and we can send a taxi to bring you to Wadi Rum. From Aqaba South Beach to Wadi Rum a taxi will cost 25 JD. Prices are the same going in the opposite direction.
If you are entering Jordan at the Eilat border crossing, once you cross the border there will be a number of taxis waiting to take people to Wadi Rum. The government mandated price is 35 JD.
By Bus
There is only one local bus that travels between Wadi Rum and Aqaba each day. The bus leaves Wadi Rum at 6:30 AM heading towards Aqaba, and departs Aqaba heading towards Wadi Rum at 1:00 PM. The bus departs Aqaba from the main bus station and costs 3 JD.
4. FROM NUWEIBA, EGYPT BY FERRY TO WADI RUM VIA AQABA
If you are coming from Egypt, you can take the ferry from Nuweiba (close to Dahab) to Aqaba in Jordan. See the above section regarding Aqaba to find out how to reach Wadi Rum. A taxi from the ferry terminal costs 25 JD.
Upon your arrival, we will meet you in Wadi Rum Village at the Rest House (it is the only rest house, on the right of the road with a big parking area); this building is 6km after the Visitor Center where you must pay a 5 JD entrance fee per person (or free with Jordan Pass). From the Rest House we will park your vehicle in a private gated lot at my guest house in the village and then enjoy traditional Bedouin Tea after which we will begin our journey. The weather in Wadi Rum changes drastically with the seasons.
- Spring in Wadi Rum is March-May. At this time it is mild temperature which ranges 25-35 Celsius. Summer in Wadi Rum is June-August. At this time the temperature averages 35-40 Celsius; many days are hotter than 40 Celsius.
- Fall in Wadi Rum is September-November. At this time the temperature is about 30, but the nights start to get cool.
- Winter in Wadi Rum is December-February. At this time it is 0-20; it rains and sometimes snows on the peaks of the mountains (1200 meters altitude).
For females traveling alone or in groups, Desert Guide Camp is an exceptional place to stay. The tents are private and clean; since the camp is owned and operated by a local family, all employees know who you are and will ensure your safety and comfort.
Desert Guide Camp are all professional and respect and honor female visitors. If you have any concerns or questions, you will be able to talk any of the employees at the camp, or to the owner of the camp, Mohammad Hammad, directly (all employees speak English).
Bivouac Camping in the Desert
Upon request, we offer our guests the choice to sleep out beneath the stars. The clear, desert skies provide fantastic views of the starry night sky. All sleeping equipment is provided for you. If you are staying for more than one night, you can also alternate between sleeping in the camp and bivouac camping. The default option for all of our programs is sleeping in the tents at our camp, so if you would like to sleep under the starts, please let us know in advance so that we can arrange this for you.
